When I saw this book on abortion, I knew I had to at least try and read it. My work at a local OBGYN office puts me in contact with many who start their prenatal care with us, then decide on abortion, or come for post-abortion treatment.
Every encounter breaks my heart and I silently say a prayer when another little one’s life is lost. Soon though, the hurt turns to anger, and I want to shake some sense into those girls who have come back after 2, 3, or even 4 abortions.
Don’t they realize what they are doing?
That’s why I found Cradle My Heart, Finding God’s Love After Abortion to be so convicting, not only for this culture, but also for the timing in which I read it.
It’s All About the Heart
Kim Ketola weaves her story in with a step-by-step process to find true healing after abortion.
She begins with a questions, “Do you want to be well?” Sometimes grief can be the only reminder of a life lost, and those who have had abortions tightly hold on to it. Kim will help women release this grip, and encourage them to find other ways to memorialize their baby.
Kim also addresses how to:
- Have a change of heart
- Seek forgiveness, for your baby, and for yourself
- Know for sure your baby is in Heaven
- Find healing through helping others
Though targeted toward women who have already had abortions, I think it’s relevant for anyone wanting to understand the explanations, and thoughts, behind those decisions.
Instead of anger, I now feel compassion. No matter how flippant someone might be about their abortion, or women’s reproductive rights, there is often shame, confusion, and grief inside that won’t go away.
“Those who are rightly outraged about the lost of life that happens with each abortion may not be sensitive to the pain experienced by those who learned the truth too late.” ~ pg. 40
I want to be sensitive to those girls who are hurting, and Cradle My Heart teaches us how.
